Environmental Toxins and the Case for Cleansing

A few Sundays ago, January 4, 2009, there was an article in the Austin American Statesman newspaper about the coal ash waste problem we have in Texas and other parts of the country at power plants. Disposing of this waste is a huge problem. The most common "solution" is to dump the sludge which contains heavy metals (arsneic, cadmium, mercury, lead etc)and other cancer-causing agents into storage ponds where it can leak into the water table if the pond is not lined with plastic cover or the cover has holes in it. A worse outcome is for the banks of the pond to be breached and the liquid sludge pours into the surrounding environment. This poison ends up in our drinking water and other places.

The reason this issue is mentioned here is that I'm in the middle of writing a chapter on environmental toxins and how you need to be vigilant in making sure that you and your family have some strategy in place for ridding your bodies of everyday toxins which may cause autoimmune diesases and other "inconvenient" side effects.

I'll discuss my strategy in an upcoming blog. The solutions that I will discuss are: Zeolyte, spirulina, chlorella, PC, and clay.

There are ways to keep this stuff from ruining your day (week, month, year, health)

Here's an unfinished chapter that I think I need to share now. The whole story (good nes and bad news) will be in my next book.

“The Recipe for Ill Health”

From Rich Remedies, Volume 2, Copy write 2009.

Here is a partial summary of some of the things that we come in contact with on a day to day basis. We refer to them as the “recipe for ill health”. Mix all of these toxic ingredients together in your body and sickness at some level will result.

I offer this information not to scare you but to enlighten you as to the daily grind that our immune systems are subjected to and then in Part 2 offer a solution that will alleviate some of this immune system workload, ultimately making your life and that of your loved ones much, much more satisfying and enjoyable. So let’s start with the bitter medicine first.

Municipal Water Fluoridation and Chlorination Health Risks

Fluoride and Chlorine in water were recognized 40 years ago as lethal toxins when evidence was presented to the US Congress . Lobbyists for the chemical industry over turned any momentum in favor of protecting citizens in favor of profits. This is a common practice when money and political power join foreces.

Forty plus years later, these poisons are still being injected into our water supply today, exposing us to cancer and disease- causing agents.
Fluoride- is added to certain community drinking supplies as a chemical to protect people teeth from tooth decay. The effectiveness of fluoride to provide health benefits is dubious and in fact, evidence shows that it is extremely harmful to people and pets.
A study commissioned by the US Congress in February 1989 on fluoride in drinking water by the Batelle Memorial Institute showed that the incidence of oral cancers in fluoridated cities vs non-fluoridated cities was 33 to 50% greater in the fluoridated water consumers. A consumer health advocacy organization, the Fluoride Action Networks has catalogued a series of medical research studies that show that fluoride plays a role in allergies, bone disease, brain disease, cancer, dental fluorosis, pineal gland disorders, thyroid, tooth decay, and kidney disease. See www.fluoridealert.org
In 2008, the National Kidney Foundation released a bulletin suggesting that patients with chronic kidney conditions be warned of the presence of fluoride in their drinking water based on the overwhelming evidence that fluoride is a dangerous carcinogen and impairs kidney function. The NKF was long a supporter of the National Dental Association, a fluoride proponent ,until the evidence became so overwhelming that they had to warn kidney patients of the dangers of fluoride.
Many of the US community water systems continue to inject fluoride into drinking water.

Chlorine- is regularly added to community drinking water supplies to kill off bacteria and other harmful organisms. The problem with chlorine as I found out from a letter from my community water provider here in Austin, Texas is that it combines with organic compounds and forms a highly cancerous substances called trihalomethanes (THM’s). Studies show that THM’s cause cancer in the livers and kidnetys of mice. Studies also show that exposure to chlorine, a highly toxic chemical on it’s own increases the risks of kidney, rectal, and bladder cancer.
Rich Remedies, Volume 1 p161.

There are water filters that remove chlorine and fluoride that can substantially reduce the exposure to these chemicals in the home. Reverse osmosis and distillation treatment systems are also effective in removing chlorine an fluoride but they change the structure of “life” in the water. These types of water cannot be found anywhere in nature. They do remove chlorine and fluoride but they are acidic and in the case of distilled water, it leaches minerals from the body.

Food- based toxins

Food and Beverage containers- Bisphenol A. (BPA) can be found just about everywhere in your local grocery market including: some cans of baby formula, canned foods, and plastic bottles made with polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. BPA mimix the sex horimone estradol and is linked to serious disorders such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, diabetes, heart disease, early puberty, obesity and learning / behavioral problems. Artificial horimone stimulants are notorious cancer/ disease causing agents and when present accelerate the spread of cancers. (check this last statement)
BPA can be found in the bloodstream of 90% of the US population.

BPA was found in over half of food and beverage containers sampled. It’s everywhere.

The US FDA and EPA consider BPA “safe” for consumers but Canada has labeled it a toxic chemical.

Who do you believe? This is said to be a $6 billion per year business. It’s not going away anytime soon.

Aspartame- Artificial sweetener found in diet soda pop, diet sweets, chewing gum, and other items that offer the promise of low calorie content.
When metabolized in the body, aspartame turns into methanol, formaldehyde, and formic acid (fire ant venom) . Aspartame has a cumulative effect, building up an accumulating in your body tissue. Side effects from this chemical include anxiety, seizures, depression, headaches, insomnia, and in the worst cases rectal and brain tumors. This chemical is in a category of foods that contain “excitoxins” that accelerate the spread and development of chroniuc illnesses in the body.See 321recipes.com for over 50 articles on the effects of aspartame.

Food Dyes/ Artificial Colorings- Candies, soda pop, and anything with fake colors. Red #3, Green#3, Blue #3, yellow#6. These colors are petroleum derived and in large doses cause cancer, Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder (ADHD) in children has been linked to these dyes. Over a long time, if you consume artificial colorings in large quantities, illness will result. Think about all the sweet things we’ve eaten that have these colors in them with our children. Think of the sports drinks that we thik we are deriving health from. Think again. Check out www.adhddiet.org

Pesticides- dioxin, Dichlorobenzene, gamma-Hexachlorocyclohexane, Methoxychlor, Pentachloronitrobenzene, Phenol, Cyanide, and many others. Sprayed on fruits and vegetables that are t grown conventionally. The chemicals mentioned above are all cancer and autoimmune disease causing agents.

Sodium Nitrite- Processed meats- bacon, ham. Hot dogs, lunchmeats, and corned beef. These mix in the stomach to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen linked to cancer in the bladder, brain, and pancreas.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)- It is found in some, chips, salad dressings, canned soups, frozen dinners, fast foods, and many processed foods include MSG as a flavor enhancer. It will show up on labels as a variety of different , harmless sounding things such as: yeast extract, gelatin, calcium caseinate, and sodium caseinate. It causes allergic reactions in some people, can trigger migranes, and can effect the nervous system. The worst side effect is that according to Dr. Russell Blalock, M.D. it accelerates the growth of cancer cells in patients with cancer. It is in a class of food additives called excitoxins. http://www.naturalnews.com.com/020550

Trans Fats - Partially hydrogenated vegetable oils or saturated fats. Hydrogen is added to vegetable oil to increase shelf life in foods. This causes the oil to solidify at room temperature. It also solidifies in your body.
“Scientific evidence shows that consumption of saturated fat, trans fat, and dietary cholesterol raises low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad cholesterol," levels, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health, more than 12.5 million Americans have CHD, and more than 500,000 die each year. That makes CHD one of the leading causes of death in the United States.
The Food and Drug Administration has required that saturated fat and dietary cholesterol be listed on food labels since 1993. Starting Jan.1, 2006, listing of trans fat will be required as well. With trans fat added to the Nutrition Facts panel, required by Jan. 1, 2006, you will know for the first time how much of all three--saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol--are in the foods you choose. Identifying saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol on the food label gives you information you need to make food choices that help reduce the risk of CHD. This revised label will be of particular interest to people concerned about high blood cholesterol and heart disease.”
Crackers, potatoe chips, cookies, snack food, shortening, fried foods, margarines, and other foods processed with hydrogenated oils are potentially dangerous if consumed in large quantities over time. Many of these “comfort foods” are mainstays of the Standard American Diet (SAD).

Some scientists believe that trans fats are the most harmful food additive to the human body because they raise LDL cholesterol and are contained in so many foods and when they accumulate, solidify in your blood vessels causing blockages.

The purpose is to educate, not alarm. There are solutions to offsetting some of these
effects that will be discussed later.

Knowledge is power.
